Come to learn to lift without any sweaty gym bros hanging over you! We'll be practicing lifting weights mindfully and joyfully in an inclusive gym setting. We'll focus on the three main movements of powerlifting (squat, bench press, and deadlift). But don't be deterred if any of those aren't right for your body, we can always make substitutions and find the movements that feel good for you.
I'll lead you through variations, exploring each movement pattern unweighted, doing it with dumbbells or kettlebells, and using barbells. The biggest thing that you'll take away is the knowledge of how to lift safely, choose the appropriate weights or intensity for a given exercise, and make each lift work for you.
We'll start with a group mobility warm-up. Then I'll introduce the moves that we'll be working with that day, and explain the format of the workouts. After that, we'll set up stations and break off into groups and pairs. As you're going through the movements I'll visit each group and help with choosing weights, making modifications as necessary to avoid discomfort/pain, improving technique, and answering questions. We will end with a short cooldown stretching session.
